A Brief History of Scott Fly Rods

The Scott story began in 1973, when founder Harry Wilson started building rods in a San Francisco basement with the goal of creating lighter, more responsive fly rods. Naming the company after his son, Scott, Wilson quickly gained recognition for pushing boundaries in rod design.

By the mid-1970s, Scott introduced innovations like the internal spigot ferrule — a design that allowed rods to flex more naturally and cast more smoothly. Later came the iconic G Series graphite rods, which set the standard for feel and accuracy in trout fishing.

Over the decades, Scott has remained true to its mission: handcrafting rods that give anglers better connection, better control, and better days on the water. Today, every Scott rod is still built start to finish in Montrose, Colorado.
