Inshore Opportunities

Redfish - Year Round
There is no wrong time to search for our state saltwater fish.  Different seasons offer different opportunities to target this fish.  During Spring, you can chase these fish through the marsh as they're chasing shrimp and baitfish and hunting for crabs. As water temps warm up with Summer, you can target them in several ways.  We REALLY enjoy topwater action during the warmer months, it makes for a very aggressive eat and really keeps an angler on their toes.  We can also begin to target tailing redfish.  These fish tail on certain tides known as King Tides or Flood Tides.  They are able to venture onto flats that are normally solid ground due to the tides being higher than normal.  We typically throw crab patterns as these fish are actively searching for crabs with their face down and tail up. When Fall approaches, these fish get a bit more feisty as they are beginning to feed hard on shrimp.  We can still use topwater flies but tend to lean towards shrimp patterns.  When winter gets here, the water clears up to be crystal clean and offers the best sight fishing opportunities for anglers.  Redfish school up in large numbers and sun themselves on shallow mudflats during the day.

Speckled Trout - October thru December
While you can catch Speckled Trout year round, we find the prime season to be during the Fall and early Winter.  These fish are schooled up the back of creeks and deeper channels feeding as bait passes by.  We are typically targeting deeper water with current moving through.  A 6wt. rod and sinking line makes for a great day catching these fish.
